Ascender sample fonts for XNA GameStudio 2.0

XNA Game Studio 2.0 provides a set of sample high quality fonts that you can use in creating Xbox games. The sample fonts are supplied under license from Ascender Corporation.

These fonts implement only a subset of the total features defined by the OpenType font format. They contain the ASCII character set along with OpenType typographic features. The fonts can be used “as is” in any game title created with XNA Game Studio 2.0.

To license versions of the sample fonts with extended character sets (i.e. Latin 1 codepage 1252), custom fonts or to evaluate a wide range of fonts for game developers, please contact Ascender.

Kootenay™ is a new sans serif design named for region in the Southwestern Canadian Rockies bounded by the 7-9,000 foot Selkirk and Purcell Mountain Ranges. The Ktunaxa people have lived in this valley for thousands of years and their petroglyphs can be seen on several cliffs from Kootenay Lake. The design features curvaceous diagonal stems which combine with tapered terminals to produce a rich texture and an approachable appearance. The open counters and tall x-height make this design very suitable for interface designs while the typographic details are attractive for use at large sizes.

Lindsey™ is a script font based on the designer's niece's handwriting. The spunky-looking, informal letterforms could have been taken from a teenager's homework or birthday list - they're legible but have a youthful attitude. Lindsey is designed with contextual, OpenType enabled, alternative letters which enhance the look of real handwritten text. The design is useful for any situation where a casual, handwritten look is desired.

Miramonte™ is a friendly sans serif design suitable for user-interface design, corporate branding and publishing. The name means 'behold the mountains' in Spanish, suggesting the rustic, unrefined type design. Miramonte includes an alternative lowercase a, for those who have a stylistic preference, and an extensive character set for publishing Central and Eastern European languages.

Pericles™ is based on a type designed by Robert Foster for American Type Founders in 1934. This new version includes an extended set of OpenType enabled alternative letters. Use Pericles to create eye-popping effects in headlines, titles, banners, and greeting cards.

Pescadero™ is named for the valley in California's rugged central coast. Early Spanish settlers called the area Pescadero (fishing place) as they observed it was a favorite fishing spot for the local natives. Pescadero is delicate and detailed for attractive documents but robust enough for serious reports and titles. The design is based heavily on calligraphic inscriptional lettering.
