Ascender TV Font Collection - Closed Captioning fontsAscender offers fonts designed and tuned for on-screen legibility that meet the requirements of the EIA-708-B standard for Digital TV Closed Captioning (DTVCC). Closed captioning is a technology that allows text to be superimposed over the video to benefit persons with hearing disabilities. All television receivers in the United States are mandated by the FCC to include support for the EIA-708-B closed captioning standard. EIA-708-B includes a range of options to display closed caption text, including a variety of font styles in different sizes and colors, and support for Unicode. The Ascender TV Font Collection consists of fonts designed and tuned specifically for on-screen legibility. Each of these fonts make closed captioning text readable and attractive. Ascender's CCTV fonts address the seven different font styles and character sets as mandated by the FCC Below is an illustration of the Lucida® font family designed by Bigelow & Holmes as one of the first harmonized families for reproduction on low resolution devices. Between all the Lucida fonts there is a consistency of capital heights, x-heights and main stem weights.
