Edge Technology

Edge™ Technology is comprised of font hinting techniques that achieve superior visual results using scalable fonts in a low-memory environment, providing optimal tuning control over the glyph rendering process.

Edge360

Edge360™ is an embedded solution for delivering crisp, dynamic text in hardware-accelerated 2D and 3D environments in real time. Edge360 works with iType 5.0 on devices that support OpenGL® ES 2.0 graphics processing technology.

iType Connects

iType can be implemented into various platforms using iType Connects™, environment-specific plug-ins that enable superior display of scalable, stylistic and multilingual text.

High performance architecture

Through features such as multithreading and high-speed character caching, iType removes process bottlenecks and allows device manufactures and application developers to tune the engine’s already small footprint even smaller by selecting only the build time resources you need. Font compression/decompression software saves significant memory for font data storage by allowing only the required portions of font data to be decompressed at run-time.

Font support

Monotype Imaging offers access to more than 15,000 typefaces from the Monotype®, Linotype® and Microsoft® typeface libraries and a vast collection of East Asian and other multilingual typefaces tailored for mobile phones and other display screens. For low-end applications that require bitmaps, Monotype Imaging offers a utility that converts scalable data to bitmaps ensuring that they appear the same as their scalable counterparts – creating a consistent font style across the product range.

Integration with WorldType Layout Engine

A modular software library for composing, positioning and rendering text in multiple languages, the WorldType® Layout Engine works with iType to handle complex scripts that include specific layout requirements, including right-to-left  or “bidi” (bidirectional) reordering.
