PRESS RELEASE Ascender Corp Announces Font Sublicensing ProgramEnables Developers to offer Font Solutions for Mobile Devices and Digital TVsElk Grove Village, IL - June 27, 2006 - Ascender Corporation, specialists in fonts optimized for on-screen legibility and multilingual support, announced today that it is making its font software available to developers to re-distribute with their products targeted at mobile device and digital television OEMs. Developers that are currently providing products to mobile phone and digital television OEMs now have the opportunity to offer a more complete solution to their customers and earn additional revenue. The program is designed to enable companies that provide middleware, user interfaces, browsers and silicon chips to also offer high quality font solutions to their OEM customers in these markets. The Ascender font library is comprised of fonts licensed from Microsoft, Bigelow & Holmes as well as its own original designs. Among the many font solutions provided by Ascender in this program are fonts that have been specifically designed for user interfaces in mobile devices, the EIA-708-B Closed Caption font set for digital televisions and set-top boxes, Teletext fonts that meet the European Closed Caption specifications, Compact Asian Fonts, and fonts for Multimedia Home Platform (MHP), Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) specifications and Association of Radio Industries and Businesses (ARIB). “Fonts are the perfect complement to the products offered by developers serving the mobile and digital television OEMs”, said Steve Kuhlman, Vice President for Ascender Corporation. “This program enables developers to broaden their product offering with no virtually no development or support investment while extending the reach for Ascender products in these markets.” The Ascender sublicensing program is unique because commercial quality fonts are typically only licensed directly to the ultimate OEM and are not available for re-distribution by third parties. Since many of the fonts provided in Ascender’s font solutions are sourced from Microsoft and have been distributed throughout the world in Microsoft products, developers can be assured that these fonts are of the highest quality and have no intellectual property issues. Ascender engineers can help implement a total font solution, including porting font engines such as a FreeType-based solution. Developers interested in sublicensing the Ascender font solutions should contact Ascender to discuss the required criteria for participation in this program.
