Ascender helped Genesis create a custom typeface for their client, Beaver Creek. This elegant script is used in their advertising and branding.
Dexter - Corporate Identity Font The Dexter Company had a unique challenge to update its corporate typeface and bring it into the digital era. Jim Ford and Steve Matteson at Ascender started with the just the word DEXTER and created a more complete alphabet so the Dexter corporate could apply their corporate identity throughout their various companies and products.
Open Handset Alliance - Droid Fonts Ascender's Steve Matteson designed this font collection for use in the Android platform. The Droid Sans, Serif and Mono fonts were created for use in mobile phones. More information: Droid fonts for the Android platform
On May 15, 2007 Red Hat announced a set of custom fonts designed by Ascender. Click here for more information. The new Zune player features fonts designed by Ascender's Steve Matteson in the device User Interface and throughout its branding. The Endurance Pro Light and Bold typefaces are used in packaging, point of purchase and advertising for the Zune player. Endurance represents a warmer and more contemporary approach to the Grotesque sans serif genre of typefaces. The Endurance Pro font family contains eight fonts and features an extensive character set. It can be purchased/download here. For the User Interface, Steve developed a customized font that met the Zune's width and weight specifications. Screen size and resolution limitations were considered when creating this contemporary design which both reflects the style of the hardware, and renders with a high degree of legibility on the device.
Ascender's Steve Matteson designed the original Xbox fonts, and now the new Xbox 360 fonts. The Xbox 360 is a next-generation gaming and entertainment device that required custom fonts for both the User Interface (UI), and advertising, marketing and product packaging. The Ascender team worked closely with the Xbox 360 team to create a fresh family of fonts named Convection. These exclusive fonts feature organic and modern qualities that capture the essence of the Xbox 360 branding. Ascender created extensive character set extensions to support the product's worldwide markets.
Segoe is Microsoft's new branding typeface and can be seen on its website and in its advertising, packaging and corporate communications. Steve Matteson started this project while at Agfa Monotype. He designed the typeface family to be friendly and legible, and he created a range of weights and italics with a humanist feel. Segoe has extensive language support for Microsoft's world-wide marketing needs.
Agilent Technologies Corporate Fonts In 1999, Agilent was spun off from Hewlett-Packard Company and needed a new corporate identity and branding. As part of the process, it was decided that fonts were crucial to the international branding of Agilent, as well as to the sophisticated work-flow of printed and on-line documents. Agilent's design agency selected Agfa Monotype for this project. The design agency consulted with Steve Matteson (then at Agfa Monotype) to come up with a solution with warmth and character to produce consistent and highly legible documents world-wide. To the client's delight Monotype's original hot metal drawings of Univers were used as a basis for this project. The resulting family produced by Steve and the Agfa Monotype design team includes Greek and Cyrillic scripts, extended Latin and a host of weights and styles.
The designers working on the original Xbox game device were in need of a font which reinforced their product identity and logo. An edgy, high tech look was called for in packaging, print, point of purchase displays and their heads-up scoring display. Steve Matteson (then at Agfa Monotype) designed three fonts used in the Xbox brand: Book, Bold and Display shown below in an Xbox game demo.
Tom Rickner led the Agfa Monotype design team in meeting the strict demands of Lexmark's type-savvy staff. The resulting family ties together the wide range of Lexmark products from the web to product packaging. Lexmark's design brief was deceptively simple: Design the best new cut of a Bodoni style typeface for all corporate branding applications. Include Cyrillic and Greek scripts for multinational consistency.
The Verdana typeface family was designed by Matthew Carter, and hinted by Tom (while at Agfa Monotype) to address the challenges of on-screen display and legibility. Verdana is a humanist sans serif with generous width and spacing, and contrast among its weights. Tom tuned these TrueType fonts for low resolution display as small sizes, including the Greek, Cyrillic and other language character sets.
