Plantin Italic

Plantin Bold

Plantin Bold Italic
Description
Christophe Plantin of Antwerp was one of the most important printers of the sixteenth century. Although not a type designer or typefounder himself, his namesake typefaces were so titled due to the important role he played in forming our rich typographic traditions. Released by Monotype in 1913 under the direction of Frank Hinman Pierpont, Plantin is based on a late roman design by famed sixteenth-century French punchcutter Robert Granjon. Plantin was deemed to have great potential for use with modern printing techniques, and that still holds true. Plantin's sturdy, economical forms are easy to read and appealing on the page. It's an excellent book face, and the bolder weights work beautifully for display purposes.
