Description
French lettering artist José Mendoza y Almeida created his Photina specifically for the new phototypesetting technologies emerging in the early 1970s. Published by Monotype in 1971, Photina is a spicy text face with bite, its crisp forms seasoned with calligraphic flavor. Mendoza speaks lovingly of his creation: he says that Photina is neither too stiff nor too pretty, neither too stark nor too lovely. The design's strong character combined with Mendoza's delicate detailing make Photina a superb text and display choice for books, magazines, and cultural applications.
