Binny Old Style

Binny Old Style Italic
Description
Binny Old Style is a savory little text face based on Scottish types dating back to the 1860s. Although influenced by the typefaces of William Caslon, Binny Old Style is a move in the direction of the Modern class of typefaces. Several American foundries developed their own versions at the end of the nineteenth century. Lanston Monotype cut a version in 1908, with Monotype's phototype version debuting in 1969. This typeface is the namesake of Archibald Binny, a Scottish typefounder who took up residence in Philadelphia in the late 1800s. Binny Old Style is a welcome alternative to Caslon or Century Oldstyle, and can be used in both text and display settings.
