Albertus Light

Albertus Regular

Albertus Italic
Description
German type designer and lettering artist Berthold Wolpe created the Albertus types between 1932 and 1940. Monotype's Stanley Morison commissioned Albertus after seeing photos of Wolpe's work with bronze inscriptions. Named for medieval scientist and philosopher Albert the Great, this historically-inspired design is charmingly idiosyncratic but has great strength of character. Its chiseled features and firm strokes make a bold statement and work best at large sizes. Albertus bridges the gap between classical inscriptional lettering and contemporary sans types. It's an ideal choice for evoking a monumental, historical feel.
