JEFF FINGER, PHD has been developing computer software for over 20 years, and began developing font technology software in 1987.
Jeff’s career in font software began at Imagen, where for four years he managed the font technology group. It was at Imagen that Jeff first worked with Steve Matteson and Tom Rickner (who are both co-founders of Ascender). At Imagen, Jeff developed font hinting software that greatly decreased the time needed to produce fonts, and enabled creation of fonts that improved their display at screen resolutions. Imagen was later acquired by QMS, which is now part of Konica-Minolta.
Jeff was then recruited into Adobe System's Advanced Technology Group, where he rewrote PostScript Level 2's memory management system, prototyped the earliest Acrobat Forms system and Acrobat Forms scripting, integrated very early versions of Java into Adobe applications, and created compression technology for scanned text.

In 1998, Jeff left Adobe and developed a variable printing technology that was acquired by WebWare Corporation, where he was Vice-President of Software Development.
From 2001 through 2005, Jeff also ran Janglo, a volunteer Internet group of English-speaking Jerusalemites helping each other. Under Jeff's leadership, Janglo grew from a trickle to about 40,000 moderated messages per year and 10,000 participants.
Jeff earned a B.A. in Physics and Chemical Physics at Rice University, an M.S. in Computer Science at the University of California at San Diego, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science at Stanford University. He lives in Jerusalem, Israel, with his wife Yemima, daughter Avigayil and dog Shuli. Jeff also loves to photograph local wildlife, as can be seen at http://www.jeffster.org/animals.
