Baskerville

Type Foundry: URW++

The Baskerville™ Font Family, created in the mid-eighteenth century, is what is known as a Transitional typeface. The British printer and typographer John Baskerville was responsible for one of our most widely used and historically influential typefaces of all time. The Baskerville font played a significant role in moving the type world from Old Style designs such as Garamond and Bembo to Modern typefaces like Bodoni and Century Schoolbook. Monotype's 1923 re-cutting of the Baskerville Font Family is considered to be the first true rendition of John Baskerville’s landmark design. A classic text face, the Baskerville Font Family's delicate strength makes it an optimal choice for books and magazines. The Baskerville Font Family has a handsome personality but remains neutral to the reader in text settings. When used for display purposes, Baskerville’s hidden charms become apparent. Baskerville fonts are available in both Opentype (.otf) and TrueType (.ttf) font formats.
