Ascender Uni 5.0 Font Program
Description Ascender Uni fonts are available in two different font styles:
By providing both a proportionally spaced and fixed-width version, customers can use the appropriate font that works best for their product requirements. For instance database programs may require fixed-width spacing for columned reports while a publishing application may require a proportional spaced version. One of the benefits of the Ascender Unicode 5.0 program is that it offers flexible implementations that include providing a single “big font” or a series of language modules that provides support for specific geographic regions. The Ascender Uni program provides an initial font or set of fonts that has full coverage for characters in The Unicode Standard, v2.1 and beyond (supporting most major code pages and character sets in modern use). At 39MB (smaller without bitmaps), it contains approximately 53,000 glyphs. The Latin and related glyphs are Sans Serif, with Gothic ideographs drawn in Japanese style, and complementary styles for other scripts. There are also versions of Ascender Uni that provide localized support for Korean, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese. For improved legibility at small sizes, embedded bitmaps can be included for sizes 11 through 23, with coverage of ideographs and Hangul Syllables. OpenType layout support is included for Arabic (initial, medial, final, isolate, and required ligature forms, as well as basic mark positioning), and vertical writing for CJK locales (consisting mostly of Latin, symbol, punctuation, and kana glyph variants).
