BILL DAVIS has over thirty years experience in the graphic arts and font software industry. He has a unique ability to grasp technologies and their potential impact from both a hands-on and big picture perspective.
Bill's new title at Monotype Imaging is Marketing Programs Manager. He is responsible for managing Ascender's font websites, relationships with type designer and font foundry partners, evangelizing web fonts and other projects at the company.
After graduating from RIT with a Printing Management degree, Bill worked in technical support and sales for a variety of typesetting and pre-press systems companies, including Information International Inc., ImagiTex and Multi-Ad Services. He also established a consulting and training business focused on Macintosh desktop publishing and advertising systems implementation.
In 1991 Bill joined Monotype Typography Inc. in Chicago and led the company's marketing and business development efforts. He helped the company market its world-renowned library of typefaces in both PostScript® and TrueType® font formats to the creative professional and home/office markets. Additionally he developed a successful line of consumer-oriented "create & print" software targeted at inkjet printer and paper companies for bundling with their products. Bill is the co-inventor on a patent (along with Ira Mirochnick) for edge-to-edge printing using a personal computer and printer. Bill left Monotype in 2004 to help start Ascender, and rejoined the Monotype team in December 2010 as part of the acquisition by Monotype Imaging Inc.
When not at the office or online he is either at home with his wife and two girls, or outside enjoying a variety of activities from fly fishing to swimming & cycling.
