Ascender Type Collection
Featuring new type designs from Ascender
Ascender is pleased to introduce a variety of original and revival typefaces created to enhance the typographic palette of creative professionals and developers with fonts that feature artistic distinction and technical sophistication.
The Ascender Type Collection features a distinctive range of text, display and script fonts with a wide range of uses. Many of the fonts were developed with extensive character sets to showcase the advanced typographic features available in OpenType (these fonts have a "Pro" designation).
These fonts are all available for users to download, or for developers to license and build into their software or hardware products.

Ascender Uni is a comprehensive Unicode-compatible font available in proportionally spaced and fixed-width versions.
The Ascender Uni 5.0 program provides an initial font or set of fonts that has full coverage for characters in The Unicode Standard, v2.1 and beyond (supporting most major code pages and character sets in modern use).
At 39MB (smaller without bitmaps), it contains approximately 53,000 glyphs. The Latin and related glyphs (designed by Steve Matteson) are Sans Serif, with Gothic ideographs drawn in Japanese style, and complementary styles for other scripts. There are also versions of Ascender Uni that provide localized support for Korean, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese.
For improved legibility at small sizes, embedded bitmaps can be included for sizes 11 through 23, with coverage of ideographs and Hangul Syllables. OpenType layout support is included for Arabic (initial, medial, final, isolate, and required ligature forms, as well as basic mark positioning), and vertical writing for CJK locales (consisting mostly of Latin, symbol, punctuation, and kana glyph variants).

Ayita™ is a new sans serif design by Jim Ford and Steve Matteson.
Ayita is a Cherokee name which translates to ‘first in dance’ and recalls the rhythm and flow of this new typeface. Originally conceived as an upright italic design, Ayita remains contemporary, friendly and hard working. The open shapes render faithfully at small point sizes and on device screens while the compact design allows more characters per line for headlines.
Ayita is available in Regular and Bold weights. It is a useful design for a wide variety of uses including interfaces, spreadsheets, greeting cards and banners.

Chicory™ is a beautiful new calligraphic typeface with a touch of elegance. The narrow chancery style is perfect for formal invitations, newsletter mastheads, menus and greeting cards.

Circus Poster™ was created by Tom Rickner as a tribute to the classic Tuscan Egyptian forms used in many wood types of the 1890's.
It captures the spirit of the wild west, amusement parks and circuses. The details of Circus Poster Shadow are best reproduced at larger, display sizes.

Crestwood™ is an updated version of an elegant semi-formal script typeface originally released by the Ludlow Type Foundry in 1937. Crestwood is best used at larger sizes, and is wonderful for invitations and greeting cards.

Dujour™ was developed by Steve Matteson to enhance posters, signs or other documents with a touch of historical boldness.
Dujour is an art deco revival of the 1930’s typeface “Independent” from the Collette and Dufour typefoundry.

Endurance™ Pro was designed by Steve Matteson to fill the need for a verstaile, industrial strength sans serif typeface family. Its design follows the Swiss model of Grotesque sans serifs yet it adds a layer of warmth not often found in this genre. Capital letters tend to be less constricted in proportion than other popular Grotesques and its careful detailing gives a more refined appearance in large sizes. Terminals are shorter and counters are more open giving a brighter appearance in text in both print and on screen.
Endurance Pro is useful for corporate branding, print publishing and embedded systems. It was designed with on-screen legibility as a key attribute for hardware and software developers.
The Endurance Pro family includes 8 fonts (light, regular, bold & black with matching italics), and features support for the WGL character set.

Kootenay™ Pro is a new sans serif design named for region in the Southwestern Canadian Rockies boudned by the 7-9,000 foot Selkirk and Purcell Mountain Ranges. The Ktunaxa people have lived in this valley for thousands of years and their petroglyphs can be seen on several cliffs from Kootenay Lake. The design features curvaceous diagonal stems on which combine with tapered terminals to produce a rich texture and an approachable appearance. The open counters and tall x-height make this design very suitable for interface designs while the typographic details are attractive for use at large sizes.

Lindsey™ Pro is a script font based on the designer's niece's handwriting. The spunky-looking, informal letterforms could have been taken from a teenager's homework or birthday list - they're legible but have a youthful attitude. Lindsey is designed with contextual, OpenType enabled, alternative letters which enhance the look of real handwritten text. The design is useful for any situation where a casual, handwritten look is desired.

Massif™ Pro is a new typeface designed by Steve Matteson to impart an organic feeling with crisp readability both on screen and in print. Massif has a generous xheight, and letterforms with an angluar tension and smooth curves. Massif is very flexible - it works well at text sizes and for display headlines.
The OpenType Pro feature set includes oldstyle figures and small capitals.

Mayberry™ was designed for use in set top TV devices and therefore salutes arguably one of the most popular TV show in history with its name. Originally designed to emulate the technical behavior of Tiresias™ ‘PCFont’ and ‘ScreenFont’ styles, its designer has taken the liberty to improve upon its readability and aesthetics. Counter shapes are left open to prevent filling in when rendered on low resolution devices; a larger pan-European character set with preferred accented character designs are provided; and more care has been given to design subtleties which are the hallmark of a good type design.
The Mayberry character set supports Central and Eastern European, Turkish and Baltic. Mayberry also includes a slashed zero for use where absolute distinction between O and 0 is a concern. Mayberry is ideally suited for documents where the presentation of information in a straightforward, no-nonsense, unhindered manner is critical.

Miramonte™ Pro is a friendly sans serif design suitable for user-interface design, corporate branding and publishing. The name means 'behold the mountains' in Spanish, suggesting the rustic, unrefined type design.
Miramonte was inspired by Marso Grotesque, designed in 1960 by Stanislov Marso. Steve Matteson leveraged the humanist elements of the design to create this new digital revival. Miramonte includes an alternative lowercase a, for those who have a stylistic preference, and an extensive character set for publishing Central and Eastern European languages.

Pericles™ Pro is based on a type designed by Robert Foster for American Type Founders in 1934. This new version includes an extended set of OpenType enabled alternative letters. Use Pericles to create eye-popping effects in headlines, titles, banners, and greeting cards.

Pescadero™ Pro is named for the valley in California's rugged central coast. Early Spanish settlers called the area Pescadero (fishing place) as they observed it was a favorite fishing spot for the local natives. Pescadero is delicate and detailed for attractive documents but robust enough for serious reports and titles. The design is based heavily on calligraphic inscriptional lettering.

Titanium™ is a geek-ed out, über-technoid specimen of plasma-type. Designed by Steve Matteson, this typeface is the perfect display font for your star cruiser or the weekend interplanetary lander. Like its namesake, Titamium is the strongest design for its weight – capable of withstanding the jump to lightspeed without paradoxical distortions.
